( Fars News Agency) Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki described the UN Security Council Resolution 1770 on Iraq as a document substantiating the defeat of the United States' unilateralist and self-centered approaches.
Mottaki made the remarks in a foreign ministerial meeting on Iraq held on the sidelines of the annual meeting of the UN General Assembly in New York, a statement released by the Foreign Ministry's Information and Press Bureau said.
Mottaki further noted the US administration's contradictory words and attitudes towards Iraq, and said, "On one hand, the US administration claims to be supporting the Iraqi government, and on the other hand, it undermines the Iraqi government in different ways.
"The US administration asserts to be seeking establishment of security and stability in Iraq while its troops are disturbing security in Iraq," he continued.
Also noting the recent resolution passed by the UN Security Council on Iraq, the top diplomat said, "This resolution is undoubtedly a document substantiating the failure of the unilateral thinking and self-centered approaches of the US."
He pointed to the responsibilities of the United Nations on the basis of the Resolution 1770, and called on the international community and the United Nations to prevent repetition of previous mistakes by the occupying forces in Iraq.
Mottaki underlined that the issue of Iraq should be resolved by the Iraqi people, and described the role of the international community in this regard as "complementary".
"The international community should fulfill its assisting and complementary role at the present juncture in a bid to help the Iraqi government and nation," he added.
The minister further condemned the arrest of a governorate staffer of Iran's Kermanshah province by the US troops in Iraq, and reminded that the US has repeatedly embarked on arresting Iran's diplomatic corps and business delegates during official visits to Iraq.
"These illogical and illegal attitudes, which in fact mean rocking the boat to impede participation and reconstruction of Iraq, are contradictory to the US allegations that it supports participation of the neighboring countries in the reconstruction of Iraq," the Iranian foreign minister concluded.
