The U.S. dollar was sold at 19,180 rials on Iran's unofficial market today, increasing slightly compared to Tuesday's price of 19,110 rials. Each Azadi gold coin was also sold at 7.16 million rials, compared to 7.13 million rials the day before, according to the Mehr News Agency.

The Euro was sold at 24,200 rials compared to 24,140 rials on Tuesday whilst the Pound was unchanged at 30,000 rials.

Iran's central bank allowed trading in its currency at market levels after fixing the exchange rate in January as the threat of sanctions over the country's nuclear programme and economic risks spurred Iranians to buy up dollars.

On January 26, the bank fixed the rate at 12,260 after the U.S. dollar surged to almost double that level in unofficial currency markets.
