Iran has been led into a trap, it is important to realize that, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said in a meeting with researchers, specialists and innovators on Sunday, the official website of Iranian leader reported.

" To rely solely on crude oil for Iran is a self-delusion," Khamenei underscored. "This will not lead the country to prosperity and progress. This is a trap for us and our people."

Khamenei noted that this "oil dependancy" has been going on for years, and that it has to be changed.

"The country much reach such a phase, that the domestic oil wells could be shut down instantly, without any substantial damage," Khamenei said, implying that has to devote sources to developing other spheres.

At the same time, Khamenei highly assessed the steps undertaken by the government regarding "economy of resistance" that Iran is currently implementing.

The Leader noted that taking the economy of resistance seriously is one of the main ways of passing the current fateful juncture.

"The economy of resistance is not a slogan, but a reality which should be realized," Ayatollah Khamenei added.

"One of the best manifestations and most effective components of the economy of resistance is knowledge-based companies which can make the economy of resistance more sustainable," Ayatollah Khamenei said.

The Leader added that true economic growth hinges on the generation of wealth through science and knowledge.

"If knowledge-based companies are taken seriously and their qualitative and quantitative growth is supported, the country will achieve true prosperity by generating wealth through [promotion of] science," the Leader said.

On July 25 a special meeting with representatives from Iranian parliament, presidential administration and the juridical system was held in the parliament, regarding the "economy of resistance" that Iran is implementing.

The five-hour meeting discussed the poverty, rising expenses on food, the industrial situation in the country, and also agricultural problems.

After the meeting, Iranian parliament speaker Ali Larijani said that in order to tackle the impact of economic crisis and lower the high expenses in the country, a special headquarters was established.

This headquarters has been established from the members of Iran's Iranian parliament, presidential administration and the juridical system - a total of 9 people.

Larijani noted that this headquarters has already began its work, while not yet being ratified, adding that because of the sanctions imposed by the West on Iran, these sanctions impact country's economy badly, therefore it is needed to apply the "economy of resistance".

Speaking on other issues, Khamenei noted that pressures exerted on the Iranian nation by foreign powers will not be able to weaken the resolve of the nation.
