Prices of staple food rise in Iran

The prices for six groups of food, including egg, vegetable, sugar, tea, chicken meat, and beans have increased in Iran in the week which ended September 5 compared to the same period of the previous year.

The prices for fruits and cooking oils, however, decreased in the mentioned week, Iran's IRNA News Agency reported on September 7.

The Central Bank of Iran has also released a chart comparing the price of staple food in the mentioned week with its preceding week.

The prices for egg, beans, vegetables, chicken meat, sugar, and tea increased by seven percent, 0.6 percent, 0.8, percent, 0.2 percent, 1.5 percent, and 0.3 percent respectively, compared to previous year.

However, the prices of fruits and cooking oils decreased by 17.6 percent, and 3.2 percent, respectively.

Prices of staple foods in Iran has been on the rise as the administration will no longer allocate the U.S. dollar at the exchange rate of 12,260 rials for importing rice, meat, milk, and edible oil, the Mehr News Agency reported in July.
