Iran and Tajikistan signed 10 cooperation accords and issued a joint statement to enhance bilateral ties in different fields.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and his Tajik counterpart Emomali Rahmon signed the accords in Tajikistan's city Dushanbe, Iran's Fars news agency reported on September 10.

An agreement between the Institute of Persian language and the Institute of Tajik language, an agreement between foreign affairs ministries, an agreement between police forces, an agreement between Iran's interior ministry and Tajikistan's organization for fighting drugs, and an agreement between chamber of commerce were signed.

The second turbine of the Sangtoudeh-2 power plant in Tajikistan came on stream via a video conference link by the two presidents.

The first turbine of Sangtoudeh-2 power plant, some 180 kilometers from the capital, Dushanbe, was inaugurated in 2011 simultaneous with Tajikistan's Independence Day.

Iran and Tajikistan have invested around $180 million and $40 million respectively in the project. The Iranian contractor will hand the plant to Tajikistan in 12 years.

According to the Iran Customs Administration, non-oil trade between Iran and Tajikistan amounted to $267.3 million in the previous Iranian calendar year, which ended on March 20, 2014.

Iran exported $248.4 million of non-oil goods to Tajikistan and imported $18.9 million of non-oil goods from the country.
