By Fatih Karimov – Trend:

Iran has rejected the preliminary proposal of Danish Maersk Group for the second phase of the South Pars oil layer development project, Ali Kardor, Iran’s deputy oil minister, said.

However, he added that talks are underway with the Danish company, Tasnim news agency reported May 31.

The proposal was not acceptable in terms of extraction model and oil recovery factor, Kardor, who heads the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC),‎ said.

Maersk will take into account the viewpoints of the NIOC in its new proposal, he said, expressing hope that the talks will be concluded till March 2018.

Currently the contractor of the project is Pars Oil & Gas Company. Iran started production of 25,000 barrels per day ‎of crude oil from offshore South Pars gas field’s oil layer recently and plans to add 10,000 b/d to this volume in ‎Summer.‎

The figure is planed to reach 200,000 barrels in next 20 years. At least 300 wells will be drilled in this regard.

It was earlier announced that Tehran will offer second phase of the layer development project to foreign parties.

Kardor said in August 2016 that Iranian companies are working on the first phase of the project, but they lack the necessary technology for development of other phases.
