Iran's sees increase in fisheries products - IFO

TEHRAN, Iran, July.5

Iran's fisheries products had increased 38 percent in the past eight years, said the head of the Iran Fisheries Organization.

Statistics show that Iran's fisheries products in 2013 were 885,000 tons while the production grew 38 percent in 2020 to 1.2 million tons, Nabiollah Khon Mirzaei told Trend in an interview.

The country's fishing has increased 35 percent during this period from 514,000 tons in 2013 to 700,000 tons in 2020.

In the aquaculture sector, the country's products increased 43 percent from 371,000 tons in 2013 to 530,000 tons in 2020.

The statistics indicate Iran's export in 2013 was $304 million and its trade balance was less than $200 million while the export in 2020 was more than $500 million and trade balance was more than $450 million.

"The trade balance of fisheries products has always been positive and growing, we seek to improve export and trade balance in current Iranian year (started March 21, 2021)," Mirzaei noted.

The country's per capita fish consumption in 2020 was 13.3 kilograms that had a 56 percent increase compared to 2013 which was 7.5 kilograms.
