By Fikret Dolukhanov – Trend:

Germany will work on complementary mechanisms to protect its economic operators in Iran, German embassy in Baku told Trend on May 18 commenting on the recent withdrawal of the US from the Iranian nuclear deal.

Germany will work together with the United Kingdom and France but also other Member States and the EU bodies on complementary mechanisms and measures on national as well as on the European Union level to protect her economic operators in Iran or otherwise affected by the developments, said the embassy.

Earlier, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said that Germany remains committed to the nuclear agreement and will keep working to ensure that the agreement can remain in place.

“It is the successful outcome of many years of long and tough diplomatic negotiations. And above all, the agreement is working,” Maas said.

On May 8, US President Donald Trump announced Washington’s decision to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal as it, he said, leaves Tehran a possibility to create a nuclear bomb bypassing all the restrictions. He noted another agreement with Iran should be signed. The US President also pledged to reinstate the sanctions against Iran, which were lifted as part of the agreement.

The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), known as the deal on Iran’s nuclear program, was signed between Iran and six international mediators (the United Kingdom, Germany, China, Russia, the United States, and France) on July 14, 2015. On January 16, 2016, the parties to the deal announced beginning of its implementation. Under the deal, Iran undertakes to curb its nuclear activities and place them under total control of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in exchange for removal of the sanctions imposed previously by the United Nations Security Council, the European Union and the United States over its nuclear program.
