Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said an Iranian destroyer helped a U.S. ship survive a pirate attack in the Gulf of Aden.
"The ship had been surrounded by pirates in the Gulf of Aden. But, the Iranian destroyer helped it survive a dangerous situation," Iran's Mehr news agency quoted Sayyari as saying on May 6.
The Iranian Navy has been actively patrolling in the Gulf of Aden and the Bab-el Mandab for 6 years to deal with piracy, said Sayyari.
At present, 34 Iranian fleets are present in the region, he added.
