There are 1.200 million drug addicts in Iran, Iranian news agency MEHR quotes Police Force Commander in Chief Ismail Ahmadi Mugaddam as reporting.
He said 400,000 of them are using heroin.
Iran is located in a transit corridor between Afghanistan, which produces producing raw opium, and its customers in Europe. According to official statistics, 33 percent of drug addicts in Iran use opium, Fars news agency reported earlier.
