Georgia, Tbilisi, July 19 / Trend, N.Kirtskhalia /

The Georgian government will hold an emergency meeting in the Kakheti region today.

The meeting was scheduled for Thursday in Tbilisi. However, after the reports of floods in the region of Kakheti, it was decided to hold a meeting in Telavi (administrative centre of Kakheti region in Eastern Georgia), Georgian Prime Minister's Office told Trend on Thursday.

According to the report, the government will discuss ways to overcome the aftermath of the disaster and compensation to the local population for damage.

Heavy rain and hail caused serious damage to the Georgian regions the previous night. Towns and villages in the Kakheti region (Eastern Georgia) were particularly affected.

As a result of rain and hail in the town of Telavi, roofs of a few dozen houses were damaged, windows of homes were broken and ground floors and basements were flooded. Power lines have been damaged and the power supply to tens of thousands of subscribers cut.

Landslides also formed in some sections of the roads from the Kakheti region to Tbilisi.

This morning, local authorities will start counting the damage caused by disaster.
