President of the CE Parliamentary Assembly Jean-Claude Mignon welcomes the change of the government in Georgia through the parliamentary elections on Oct. 1, 2012. He believes that it is important to create an atmosphere that will help transfer the power.

Mignon made this statement after his visit to Georgia. It is posted on the PACE website.

Mignon said that during the meeting he informed the Georgian politicians about the concern of the international community in connection with the arrests of members of the former government and the opposition party.

"These processes are of particular concern because they occur several months before the elections," a statement said.

PACE president expresses hope that the Georgian court will consider all these cases independently and impartially.

However, Mignon welcomes the European and transatlantic orientation of Georgia and stresses that the CE Parliamentary Assembly will support the European integration of the country.
