Turkmen capital Ashgabat hosted a high level international conference "The role of transport and transit corridor in international cooperation, stability and sustainable development".

The organizers of the conference were the Government of Turkmenistan and the UN, the Ministry of Economy of Georgia said. It was attended by representatives of the governments of various countries and international organizations.

Georgia was represented by a delegation headed by the Deputy Minister of Economy Natia Mikeladze.

On the first day of the conference Natia Mikeladze made a presentation "The importance of the transport corridor of Georgia in international cooperation". To attract investors, the representative of the department of transport policy made a presentation of the project on deep-water seaport construction in Anaklia. Presentations were also made by representatives of the Revenue Services of the Ministry of Finance and the Georgian railroad.

At the initiative of the Afghan side, bilateral meetings with delegations from Georgia, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan to discuss the issues of transit and transport cooperation were also held during the conference.

The parties adopted a declaration on expanding of cooperation in the transport sector, on attraction of additional traffic and the development of intermodal transport.
