BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 1. The European Bank of Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the EU, and German Development Bank (KfW), have provided funding for the energy efficient project in Georgia’s public schools, Trend reports via the press service of the Bank.

EU Loans worth 40 million and 13 million will be distributed for reduction of energy consumption, mostly in Georgia’s public schools, contributing to the overall environment protection. KfW will provide additional financing.

“Together with the EU and KfW, we are directing our efforts to make schools in Georgia greener and to provide comfortable learning environments for students,” Catarina Bjorlin Hansen, the EBRD Regional Director for the Caucasus, said.

Georgia’s green economy transition agenda remains a priority and is fully aligned with the ‘Green Investment in Buildings (GRIB) project, helping to build more resilient and efficient infrastructure while improving the learning environment for students, Lasha Khutsishvili, Minister of Finance for Georgia, said.

The EBRD is a leading institutional investor in Georgia. Since it started operating in the country, the Bank has invested more than €4.6 billion in 269 projects in the financial, corporate, infrastructure and energy sectors, with 78 per cent of these investments in the private sector.
