TBILISI, Georgia, August 29. Georgian citizens spent 514 million lari ($195 million) abroad from April through June 2023, which is 12 percent more year-on-year, Trend reports, referring to Georgia's statistics service Sakstat.
The average expenditure of each Georgian traveler amounted to 946 lari ($359), which is 15 percent less than in the period from April through June last year. The main part of expenses is related to shopping, food, and accommodation.
Georgian citizens made 697,800 trips abroad from April through June 2023, which is 35 percent more year-on-year. The main participants in outbound visits were residents aged 31–50.
The total number of tourist trips amounted to 331,700, which is 50 percent more year-on-year. The main destinations included Turkey (41 percent), Russia (14 percent), Azerbaijan (2 percent), and European Union countries (16 percent).
Most Georgian citizens traveled abroad to visit friends and relatives. The duration of visits during this period averaged 6.0 nights, which is 5 percent more year-on-year.
During 2022, 5 million international travelers visited Georgia, which is 188 percent more than the January–December 2021 period. These numbers are meeting expectations, recovering 58 percent from the pre-pandemic period.
Georgia's international tourist revenues for 2022 totaled more than $3 billion, an increase of 182 percent over the previous year. Moreover, 2022 revenues exceeded those of 2019 by 7 percent, when international traveler visits to Georgia peaked.
