Egyptian police have arrested two Palestinian Authority (PA) security officers who illegally entered Egypt from Gaza, Egyptian security sources said on Monday, DPA reported.

The two men, who work for Fatah security forces loyal to PA leader Mahmoud Abbas, said they had feared for their lives in the Gaza strip since Hamas took control of the area from Fatah in 2007.

The men were arrested while trying to cross the Suez Canal on their way to Cairo in a passenger car.

They are still being questioned in police custody.

Israel and Egypt have recently eased their blockade on the Gaza strip, but the movement of people in and out of the area is still restricted.
