Gazprom enters new project in Iraq's Kurdish Autonomous Region with 80 percent share

Gazprom has entered into a new production sharing agreement in Iraqi Kurdistan with an 80 percent share of the project. Preliminarily, the reserves are estimated at 90-100 million tons of hydrocarbons at the site, the first deputy director general of the company Vadim Yakovlev told the media today, RIA Novosti reported.

He said that Gazprom is the operator of the Halabja project, 20 percent is owned by regional authorities.

"Our next task is to prepare a program for exploration work," Yakovlev said.

He stressed that exploration of the site will take seven years.

While speaking about the company's activity in Iraq as a whole, Yakovlev said that the company sees the authorities' support for its activity.

"There are no obstructions to the launch the first complex at Badr," he said.

He added that it is planned to be launched in August-September.
