Macron thanked all those who voted for him to prevent right-wingers’ victory

France’s incumbent president, Emmanuel Macron, who leads in the presidential election runoff, has thanked his electorate and those who supported him to keep right-wingers out of power, Trend reports citing TASS.

"I do know that many of our fellow citizens voted for me not because they support my ideas, but because they wished to put a roadblock in the way of the right-wingers," Macron told a rally following the announcement of early election returns.

In the presidential election runoff Macron, according to early returns, received 52.28% of the votes, while his rival Marine Le Pen, of the National Rally, collected 74.72%. Le Pen made a brief telephone call to Macron to tell him she recognized his victory.
