( Itar-Tass ) -- Ukraine does not plan isotope enrichment of uranium, Fuel and Energy Minister Yuri Boiko said at a ministerial conference on the Global Nuclear Energy Partnership (GNEP).

"I would like to emphasize that Ukraine did not and does not plan to start isotope enrichment of uranium. We are pondering the affiliation to the international uranium enrichment center initiated by Russia," he said.

Ukraine also would like to take part in the design of modern nuclear reactors, which would ensure non-proliferation, he said.

" Ukraine is conducting research under the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) program of innovative reactors and nuclear cycles," the minister said. "We will take part in the joint appraisal of an innovative nuclear energy system based on the closed nuclear fuel cycle for regular and fast-neutron reactors."
