The Russian and US' positions on Anti-Missile Defense were not advanced despite two consultations and the parties continue negotiations, Sergei Kisliak, the Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia, said on 19 September, RIA News reported.

"I cannot say our positions have even been approached," Kisliak said.

The consultations concerning anti-missile defense between the US and Russia is still in progress.

We will wait for future developments on the issues. The next round of negotiations is planned to be held and the Americans will visit the Gabala Radar Station in Azerbaijan," Kisliak added.

The Gabala Radar Station, situated in the north-west of Azerbaijan, was built during the Soviet regime as an important element of the USSR Anti-Missile Defense. A ten-year agreement on leasing the station was signed in 2002. The annual rental fees come to $14mln.

Russia proposed the US use the Gabala Radar Station in Azerbaijan jointly for anti-missile defense purposes after the US refused to install an anti-missile system in Poland and the Czech Republic.
