Ahmadinejad: New resolution will only expose "political approach"

( dpa )- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Saturday that a probable new United Nations Security Council resolution against Iran would only once again expose the political approach by the West in the nuclear dispute.

"The reports by International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) proved that the Iranian nuclear case has no legal or technical problems. Therefore a new UN resolution would just prove our claim and expose the political approach by the West in the nuclear dispute," Ahmadinejad said in an interview with state television network IRIB.

The UN Security Council plans to meet Monday possibly to take a decision on a draft resolution for additional sanctions against Iran.

"A new resolution or more resolutions are not important as the era of dealing with Iran in such arrogant ways is over and will have no longer any effect," Ahmadinejad said.

"The main mistake by the West is however that a world body like the UN Security Council is degraded to an instrument by world powers."

Ahmadinejad said that instead of dealing with the Iranian nuclear case, the UN Security Council should rather pay its attention to Israeli crimes in Palestine.

Iran has already warned that in the event of another UN Security Council resolution, the Islamic state would show a harsh reaction but so far refrained to say exactly what the reaction would be.

Observers believe that the most probable reaction would be decreasing or even ceasing cooperation with the UN nuclear watchdog.
