Burlesque and Booty on the Runway: The Pussycat Dolls Close LA Fall Fashion Week

( Fashion Wire Daily )- Culver City - It was inevitable that the marketing machine that is the Pussycat Dolls would eventually turn to fashion. Impresario Robin Antin created the burlesque show of that name back in 1995, turned them into a pop music sensation, and now offers up her first fashion line, a collection of lingerie known as "Pussycat Dolls...Shhh." Taking the finale spot at the Mercedes-Benz LA Fall Fashion Week, Antin joined forces with her brother Jonathan, the famous reality-show hairstylist, to send a series of sexy looks down the slick black runway at Smashbox Studios' Main Stage in Culver City.

She sent models dressed in brightly hued ruffled panties paired with push-up demicup bras or camisoles; boy-cut bottoms with side ties and matching bras; and tiny thongs matched with equally teeny bras. There were corsets and low-slung panties, totally sheer mesh camisoles, cropped hoodies, and skinny ribbed tanks, and underwear with detachable garters, some in animal prints, some striped, some with Swarovski crystal or embroidery embellishments. All were shown with over-the-knee dark socks and work boots.

Halfway through the runway show, four strippers hit the stage, wooden chairs and all, and peeled off a couple of layers while doing some painful-looking contortions, to the tune of "Feeling Good," sung by Pussycat Dolls star and lead singer Nicole Scherzinger. More sexy lingerie looks followed, much to the seeming delight of front-row fans Quincy Jones, Dr. Dre, Jenna Jameson, Lydia Hearst, bebe owner Manny Mashouf, and the biggest name to hit LA Fashion Week, Sean "Diddy" Combs, who wore his black hoodies pulled over his head for much of the show.

Naturally, once the models had finished their catwalk, the five Pussycat Dolls - Nicole, Kimberly, Melody, Ashley, and Jessica - took to the stage and did a set of their songs, including "Don't You Wish Your Girlfriend Was Hot Like Me?" That long musical interlude before the final runway walk and Antin's bows led to a restlessness among the assembled fashionistas, who began sneaking out or fiddling with their phones. Seems live music and runway shows are not a perfect match, even in LA.
