( dpa ) - Apple will sell a record-breaking 45 million iPhones in 2009, analyst Gene Munster of the investment bank Piper Jaffray said in a research note released Monday.

The prediction came amid wider reports that Apple would release an updated iPhone in the summer that runs on 3G networks that are faster than the Edge Networks the phone currently uses. The reports said that Apple had ordered 10 million of the new phones for sale by the end of the year.

Munster said that Apple would expand the iPhone range to include two or three models, including a lower-priced model, while continuing to add new features and enter new countries including China.
