(dpa) - Iraq's
neighbouring countries along with representatives of Egypt and Saudi Arabia met
Sunday in Syria to discuss the security situation in Iraq and to work on
solving the crisis in the country.
The five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council and
representatives of the Islamic Conference have also participated in the second
annual meeting of Iraq's neighbouring countries.
Syrian Interior Minister Bassam Abdul-Maguid told reporters prior to the
meeting that the states will work on "getting Iraq out of the crisis it
lives in."
He added that the security committees will negotiate the different security
aspects in addition to the security achievements since the last meeting in
August 2007.
Abdul-Maguid stressed the importance of achieving security in Iraq, saying that
neighbouring countries should all cooperate on tightening the borders with
Iraq.
