Australian journalist Peter Lloyd is facing drugs charges after being arrested in Singapore, the national broadcaster ABC reported Friday.

Lloyd, 41, ABC's South Asia correspondent, was arrested Wednesday and was expected to be charged with drug-related offences that could bring a jail term of 20 years and 15 strokes of the cane.

Lloyd is accused of supplying a Singapore man with methamphetamine, a drug commonly called ice.

An ABC spokesman said Lloyd was in Singapore on leave from his post in New Delhi, the dpa reported.
