The death toll from the twin truck bomb explosions near the northern city of Mosul on Monday rose to 30, with another 130 people wounded, a well-informed police source said, reported Xinhua.
"Our latest reports said that 30 people were killed and 130 others were wounded in the double truck bombings in the village of Khaznah near Mosul," the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
The powerful blasts occurred when two trucks loaded with explosives detonated at 4:50 a.m. (0150 GMT) at the Shiite- dominated village, destroying more than 40 houses, the source said.
The village is inhabited by the Shabak minority, part of whom are Shiite and others are Sunni Muslims. The village is now under control of the Kurdish Peshmerga militia.
Earlier, police the source put the death toll at 25, adding 75 others were wounded.
According to the source, the toll could rise again as rescue teams are still removing debris of the demolished houses to collect the victims, who are mostly family members sleeping in the early morning when the attack occurred.
Sporadic attacks are still common in Baghdad and other Iraqi cities, despite the dramatic drop of violence over the past two years.
