Pakistan's security forces killed eight militants and apprehended 30 others in the continued search and clearance operations in northwest Pakistan's Swat and Malakand districts during the last 24 hours, the army said Saturday, Xinhua reported.
The army said in a daily update that one soldier was killed and another soldier injured during the exchange of fire between the security forces and the militants at Samter near Banjot in Swat, while five militants were killed and nine were apprehended.
Elsewhere in Swat, the army said, the security forces arrested nine militants in operations with another 12 voluntarily surrendered themselves to the security forces.
In nearby Bajaur tribal agency, the security forces carried out search operation on a tip off at Chinar and killed three militants, all Afghan nationals, said the statement.
On relief activities, the army said, so far 296,944 cash cards have been distributed amongst the internally displaced persons ( IDPs) of Malakand.
Over 1,600 militants have been killed since Pakistani security forces launched the military operation against Taliban militants late April after militants in early April entered the Buner district from the neighboring Swat district and refused to vacate the area despite their pledge to do so.
