A 6.4-magnitude earthquake struck early Monday off Honshu in northern Japan, the US Geological Survey said, dpa reported.
The earthquake struck near the east coast of Honshu at 0655 (2155 GMT) at a depth of 23 kilometres. It took place 511 kilometres northeast of Tokyo and was centred 119 kilometres east of Morioka on Honshu. The extent of damage was still to be determined.
