President Barack Obama arrived in Afghanistan on Friday on a surprise visit to hold talks with Afghan President Hamid Karzai and top NATO commanders, officials said.
"President Obama has arrived in Kabul and he is currently in Bagram," Caitlin Hayden, a spokeswoman for the US embassy in Kabul said, without providing further details, dpa reported.
An Afghan government official said that, due to bad weather, Obama would likely stay in Bagram, the main US base north of Kabul, and would hold a video conference with his Afghan counterpart.
The US leader was also scheduled to meet with his country's troops and hold talks with the top NATO commander in Afghanistan, US general David Petraeus, Afghan and US officials said.
This is Obama's second visit to the war-torn country since taking office some 22 months ago.
