Putin threatens retaliation after airport attack

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin on Tuesday vowed "unavoidable retribution" for those behind an attack at Moscow's Domodedovo airport that left at least 35 dead the day before, dpa reported.

"The terrorists will pay for this horrible and senseless crime," said Putin in comments reported by the Interfax news agency.

Authorities suspect that the terrorists behind the attack originated from Russia's conflict-torn Northern Caucasus region.

Putin, along with President Dmitry Medvedev, spent part of Tuesday visiting victims of the attack, after which he announced plans for financial support of about 102,000 dollars for each family of the wounded.

Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin has called for Wednesday to be an official day of mourning.
