At least eight Afghan National Army soldiers were killed in clashes with insurgents in northern Kunduz province on Saturday night, 303 Pamir Police Zone said in a statement on Sunday, TOLO News reported.

The clashes took place in Dasht-e-Archi district of the province after dozens of Taliban insurgents attacked the district and clashed with security forces, according to the statement.

“Eight army soldiers and six of Taliban's Red Unit members were killed, and four other Taliban were wounded,” the statement read.

“The government security forces were able to push back the insurgents attack after several hours of clashes,” it said.

However, the statement did not provide further details.

The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack but did provide details about the death of their fighters.
