(civil.ge) - The U.S. Mission to the OSCE has called on Russia to cease maltreatment of Georgian citizens living in Russia, which can lead to tragedy, and to restore communications between the two countries, reports Trend.

We also call on Russia to restore transportation and financial links it recently cut with Georgia, compounding Russia's earlier bans on imports of Georgian agricultural products, wine, water, as well as Russia's border closure at Verkhniy [Upper] Lars, the statement, delivered at the OSCE Permanent Council on October 19 by U.S. Charge d'Affaires Kyle Scott, reads.

According to the statement, about 400 Georgians have already been deported from Russia and another 300 face deportation orders.

The U.S. Mission to the OSCE also called on the governments of Russia and Georgia to take constructive steps to deescalate tensions and restore a spirit of good neighborly relations.
