The Uzbek government invites Azerbaijani businessmen to cooperate as part of three special economic zones in the country, Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Foundation (AZPROMO) said on May 28.

"Uzbekistan invites Azerbaijani businesses to take advantage of the Navoi, Angren and Jizzakh economic zones," according to the statement. "Azerbaijani entrepreneurs interested in the implementation of the projects there can obtain the necessary information from AZPROMO."

The Navoi Special Economic Zone with an area of over 500 hectares was created in 2008. The second zone Angren, located in the Tashkent region was opened in 2012. The third such zone was created in the Jizzakh region in March last year. All of them are designed for 30 years with the possibility of extension. Preferential tax, visa, exchange rate and trade regimes are observed there.

The trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan amounted to $ 19.2 million in January-April, according to the Azerbaijani State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan. Some $11.67 million fall to the export of Azerbaijani goods, while imports from Uzbekistan - $7.53 million. The trade turnover between the two countries amounted to only $21.45 million with approximately equal distribution of imports and exports ($10.77 million and $10.68 million respectively) in 2013.
