SOCAR extinguishes well at Bulla Deniz offshore field

The Azerbaijani State Oil Company (SOCAR) has extinguished the fire in the emergency well at the Bulla Deniz offshore field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea, a source at the oil and gas market told Trend on Thursday.

The Azerbaijani State Oil Company (SOCAR) has extinguished the fire in the emergency well at the Bulla Deniz offshore field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea, a source at the oil and gas market told Trend on Thursday.

According to a message published by SOCAR, as a result of conscientious efforts by SOCAR experts and American firm BOOTS & COOTS, the installation process of anti-gushing equipment at the well was completely brought under control resulting in the fire being extinguished.

According to the message, at present there is work being carried out linking the well with the manifold.

'The accident will be totally eliminated and transferring the product from the well to the system will be ensured at the next stage', the message said.

Fire engulfed exploration well No.90 in the north-east wing of Bulla-Deniz on August 17. The sea depth at the field is 26.5 metres. According to SOCAR, ignition happened during drilling at a depth of 5868 metres. An open gas blowout took place at 23:30 local time, August 17 which was followed by fire. All 62 workers who were at the platform were evacuated to the shore and there were no casualties.
