Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has appointed Ali Shamkhani as his representative in Iran's Supreme National Security Council for next three years, Iranian State IRINN TV reported.
Ali Shamkhani who is a former commander of the IRGC navy has been appointed as new secretary of Supreme National Security Council by President Hassan Rouhani, yesterday.
Rouhani was the former representative of Khamenei in the Council.
Khameni also appointed the former Secretary of SNSC Saeed Jalili as a member of the Expediency Council of the Islamic Republic.
According to the law, Iran's president is the head of SNSC.
Shamkhani who served as the Minister of Defense from August 1997 to August 2005 in the government of former Iranian president Mohammad Khatami is also a military advisor to Khamenei, and director of Iranian Armed Forces' Center for Strategic Studies.
