A new round of a suspicious series of fires at Iran’s oil, gas, and petrochemical facilities has cost the country some 100,000 liters of condensates.

The fire hit Piruzi Oil and Gas Refinery in Shahrud, Semnan Province early morning on Oct. 7 and was put out only after five hours of 40-man firefighting, Mehr news agency reported October 7.

Local authorities say four people were injured. The cause of the fire is yet to be established.

The fire comes as latest in a series of similar incidents that has afflicted the country’s oil, gas, and petrochemical facilities.

Over the past six months, a similar incident has happened in Iran every 12 days, on average.

According to AP's report several days ago the serial fires indicate the possibility of cyberattacks on Iran’s oil facilities.

Head of Iran’s Passive Defense Organization Qolamreza Jalali recently said Iran’s oil cities such as Ahwaz, Mahshahr, Asaluyeh, and Kharg were going to be protected with a new, three-layer security system to prevent such incidents.
