The Geneva deal between Iran and P5+1 severely undermines the UN Security Council resolutions against Iran, deputy foreign minister for legal and international affairs and top nuclear negotiator, Abbas Araqchi said, Mehr news agency reported on Dec. 2.
Iran and the six world powers reached a breakthrough deal early on November 24 on Tehran's nuclear programme. The two sides have signed a joint 'plan of action'. The deal signed in Geneva suggests some softening on sanctions against Iran.
Araqchi underlined that Iran has agreed to halt uranium enrichment to 20 per cent, because it no longer requires it.
Commenting on inspection of Iranian nuclear sites by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Araqchi said: "While Iran's nuclear programme is peaceful, we have no problem about monitoring."
He also underlined that the issue should not be abused and other intentions should not be involved in the inspections.
"Iran does not have problem with IAEA`s inspections, but the mechanism and abuse are our problems."
Araqchi went on to say the Geneva deal will be implemented during the next six months on a gradual basis, adding that "when we feel that the other party's steps are not simultaneous with ours, we will stop implementation of the deal".
The U.S. and its Western allies suspect Iran of developing a nuclear weapon ,something tIran denies.
The Islamic Republic has on numerous occasions stated that it does not seek to develop nuclear weapons, using nuclear energy for medical research instead.
