Presently, 11 Iranian citizens, including nuclear scientist Shahram Amiri, are imprisoned in the U.S, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast was quoted as saying by the Iranian Irna news agency.
"Amiri, who had traveled to Saudi Arabia two months ago to perform the Hajj, was arrested in Al-Riyadh and transferred to the U.S," he said today.
According to some sources, Amiri is one of the scientists engaged in nuclear research at the Fordo uranium enrichment plant near the city of Qum. Tehran announced the existence of this plant in late September.
