Visiting Tajik Minister of Transportation and Communications Nizom Hakimov conferred on Sunday with his Iranian counterpart Ali Nikzad on construction of new rail track connecting Iran, China, Afghanistan and Tajikistan, IRNA reported.

In the meeting, it was agreed that the feasibility studies on the project to be conducted by Iranian experts within three months.

The 392 kilometer rail track is to connect Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and China, said the Iranian minister.

The plan would help expand trade exchange among these countries and lessen transit expenses, he said.

According to Nikzad, the two sides' experts will supervise and implement the project.

To implement the project, he called on the relevant countries to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to this effect.

Iran and Tajikistan agreed to give discounts for those willing to transfer their goods through the rail track.
