Iran's Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi expressed criticism towards Egyptian officials that have been indifferent to his request on visiting Palestine, IRNA reported.

Salehi said that despite repeated requests, there still has not been a response from Egypt regarding this matter.

A few weeks ago Salehi has said that he is ready to visit Palestine to express his support and solidarity with the Palestinian people, adding that the Islamic Republic of Iran will continue its support for Palestine.

On the sidelines of the Developing-8 Organization summit in Pakistan, Salehi spoke with Egyptian Prime Minister Hesham Gandil and again voiced his request to visit Palestine.

"Since the only crossing point into Gaza is through the Rafah border, this kind of travel must be authorized by the Egyptian government," Salehi said.

Following the 2011 Egyptian revolution, Iran appointed its first ambassador to Egypt in almost 30 years. Despite oft-wavering tensions between the two countries, they share membership in the OIC and the Developing 8.

After the 2011 Egyptian revolution, and the appointment of ambassadors after nearly 30 years, Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi made a historic first visit to Iran since the Islamic revolution for the 2012 Non-Aligned Movement summit on 30 August, where it handed over the rotating presidency to Iran.
