Georgia has announced it is to be a closed area for dissemination of live genetically modified organisms (GM), chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Gia Tsagareishvili said on Tuesday.

Tsagareishvili said that if the bill is approved, imports of genetically modified seeds will be prohibited without a licence from the Ministry of Environment Protection.
