An Afghan man being held at the Guantanamo Bay military prison camp in Cuba has been found dead, after apparently committing suicide, the US military said, DPA reported.
The 37-year old Afghan had been held at the controversial camp since September 2007, on suspicion of belonging to al-Qaeda and planning terrorist attacks.
He was found by guards on Wednesday not breathing, and attempts at resuscitation were unsuccessful, the military said.
The cause of death was not immediately disclosed.
The death is the eighth of a prisoner at Guantanamo since it opened in January 2002, according to US media reports. Two of those deaths were due to natural causes.
There are currently around 170 people being detained in the camp, which is outside formal US legal jurisdiction.
