Monitoring of Bird Flu in Salyan

In relation with the flow of migrant birds, monitoring has commenced in the territory of Azerbaijan. In this regard, it has been decided to take preventive measures and keep the situation under control, Mammad Hasanov, Chief Physician of Salyan District Department of the State Veterinary Service told the Regional Correspondent of Trend.

As the National Park Shirvan is the habitation territory for the migrant birds and is located on the migration path, serious measure have been taken. Beginning from 3 June monitoring has been conducted in the Reserve with the participation of the State Veterinary Service, Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, Ministry of Health and National Academy of Azerbaijan. Specimens taken for examination have been forwarded to the State Veterinary Laboratory. As yet there is no danger of infection, Hasanov told.

Last season, three residents of Dayikend village of Salyan district had died from the dangerous virus H5N1.
