BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 26. A total of 49.82 percent of all transported passengers are accounted for by international airlines. Foreign airlines transported more than 1.2 million passengers, which is 34 percent more compared to the same period last year.
The rest of the passenger traffic was carried out by AZAL Airlines; more than 1.2 million passengers were transported in the first six months of 2023. Most of the passengers were transported between Baku and Nakhchivan. In general, the total number of passengers amounted to more than 300,000 people during the reporting period.
As many as 57 foreign airlines performed regular flights to Heydar Aliyev International Airport in the first six months of 2023. Most of the passengers were transported by Turkish Airlines, Utair, Aeroflot, FlyDubai, and WizzAir.
Taking into account the increase in passenger traffic and the number of foreign airlines, Terminal 2 of the Baku airport has resumed international flights, which opens up new opportunities for travelers, since June 20 of this year. This terminal offers airlines, including low-cost airlines, advantages for increasing the number of destinations to and from Azerbaijan.
Thus, the operation of both terminals of the Heydar Aliyev International Airport and the expansion of the activities of the country's regional airports will allow Azerbaijan to receive even more tourists and increase its competitiveness in the aviation industry.
