EU Representative to be Opened in Azerbaijan - Benito Ferrero-Valdner

France, Strasburg, 18 January / Trend corr. A.Maharramli / A representative office of the European Union will be opened in Azerbaijan in the near future, Benito Ferrero-Valdner, European Union Commissar for External Relations informed, during the plenary session of the European Parliament in Strasburg. Valdner noted that including the South Caucasus countries into the European Neighborhood policy will guide those countries to the common values of the EU.

"The European Commission intends to submit a report on the implementation of the spring plan of action. Many changes must be made and legal status is to be formed. Cooperation should be strengthened in all spheres, including energy, transport and environment protection," Valdner said.

According to Valdner, EU hopes to stabilise the situation and settle the Nagorno-Karabakh, Abkhaz and South Osetia conflicts which hinder the development in the region.

The organization is ready to offer aid to the conflicting countries to tackle the problems. "We will develop all programs in order to provide assistance. An official European Union representative office will be opened in Azerbaijan in the near future.

The Plan of Action was signed between EU and Azerbaijan on 14 November 2006.
