I have a perfect position to establish cooperation with Russia, the newly elected Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjoern Jagland said to press conference on Sept. 29, expressing attitude towards the situation in Georgia.
"Holding dialogue is better than isolation from each other and the war. The Council of Europe was established exactly for this purpose. Norway has good relations with Russia. As a citizen of the country neighboring with Russia, I have an excellent position to establish good cooperation with Moscow. I will do my best to resolve the problem," said the new Secretary General of the Council of Europe.
Thorbjoern Jagland said that the solution of problems between Russia and Georgia, as well as the frozen conflicts in the South Caucasus is possible through good coordination and cooperation between the OSCE and the Council of Europe. Therefore, he said, during his term as Secretary General, he will try to strengthen relations between the OSCE and the Council of Europe.
