The Armenian government should conduct more effective investigation into the March 2 events, PACE Chairman Mevlut Cavusoglu said at a press conference today while answering a question about the March 2 events in Armenia.

"The PACE Monitoring Committee and co-rapporteurs on Armenia are engaged in this issue. We can not interfere in their work," Cavusoglu said.

He said on Friday PACE will hold discussions on democratic institutions in Armenia. "One should wait for the outcome of the discussions," he said.

"I talked to the Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan during his visit to the CE. I again reminded of the importance of conducting more effective investigation into the March 2 events by the Armenian ruling circles," Cavusoglu said.

The Armenian opposition led by ex-President Levon Ter-Petrosyan staged mass demonstrations against the outcome of the presidential election held on Feb. 19, 2008. Clashes between protesters and law enforcement agencies left ten people dead and over 131 injured.
