Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's regime is a threat to the region, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said at a press-conference held after a meeting with his Russian counterpart, TV channel TRT Haber said on Wednesday.

Davutoglu added that the Turkish government has repeatedly advised Assad to stop the bloodshed in the country, but there are no results.

The Foreign Minister also said that the Turkish government has spent $700 million for Syrian refugees.

Anti-government protests have continued in Syria for about two years. According to the UN, the total number of victims of the conflict in Syria exceeds 70,000 with around three million in need of humanitarian assistance. The Syrian authorities say they oppose the well-armed militants.
