OIC meeting held on the top

The third irregular summit of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) was held in Mecca on the higher level, Novruz Mammadov, the head of the International Relationships Department of the President’s Executive Power, told Trend.

According to Mammadov, the summit focused on important and conceptual issues. “In general, the international organizations should live new processes shaped amid the international relationships, answer the new challenges and coordinate them. Many international organizations, including NATO, have already made corrections to their charters upon the collapse of the socialist camp including the USSR, from this aspect the OIC summit serve these goals,” he said, adding the effective, practical steps taken in this direction.

According to Mammadov, the participants in the meeting expressed their support to the development of a new concept for efficient resolution problems which the Islamic countries face in the 1st century. One of the major and practical milestones is that the member-countries support each other in the struggle with the terror, resolution of the political problems, and settlement of the conflicts. However, consolidating its cooperation in this direction the sides simultaneously voice acute necessity for the development of the economic relationships.

Mammadov said that under the summit the Azerbaijani President held an exchange of opinions on the activities and prospects of the OIC. The President noted the tasks set for the organization, solidarity of the Islamic countries, and stated its position on all issued.

The same time, a number of bilateral meetings were with the heads of foreign countries and officials, while the ways of development of the bilateral relationships, and the mutual visits. It all, including the upgrade of the relationships with the Islamic countries, were noted in the Mecca Declaration.
