Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev Elected Organization for Democracy and Economic Development GUAM Secretary General
During the summit of presidents of GUAM member-states held in Kiev, the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev was elected Secretary General of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development-GUAM, Trend reports. The organization will be headed on a rotation principle.
Today GUAM member-states (Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Moldova) signed a protocol on creating a zone of free trade. Also the decision of reorganizing of the Organization of GUAM (Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Moldova) into the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development GUAM, with the headquarters in Kiev. The sides signed the Charter of the Organization, the Declaration on Conflicts Settlement, the Kiev Declaration on Establishing the Organization.
The goal of the organization and its readiness to cooperation in providing democracy, stability and security, as well as the course of the organization in the cooperation and strengthening the relations with EU and NATO was designated in the declaration of the new organization. As it was underlined in the Declaration, the new organization is open to other countries which share its goals and principles.
